In this talk I explore the concepts of hippocampal function, neuroplasticity and entrainment and demonstrate their fundamental roles in development and thought that we recognize as essential to creativity, dreaming, learning and a healthy mental life. This perspective, supported by both emerging neuroscientific literature and contemporary psychoanalytic thought, has the potential to overturn our now dated perspectives on mental function (both psychiatric and psychoanalytic) and instead leads to the hypothesis that psychoanalysis is fundamentally a sophisticated form of therapeutic entrainment that provides hippocampal rehabilitation as one of its primary goals. This hypothesis can now be scientifically tested and validated.

This is a talk I recently gave in Atlanta to the Georgia Psychoanalytic Society and am working on turning into a paper.
