About Us
Who we are and what we do
The Sacramento Psychoanalytic Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization lead and supported entirely by volunteers who are dedicated to the promotion of psychoanalysis within the greater Sacramento region.
We pursue our mission through organizing educational programs, reading groups, monthly presentations, case conferences, networking events, and hosting speakers of interest for the community of Sacramento – all are welcome to get involved!

Our Board of Directors
President
Nathan Lupo, LMFT is a psychoanalyst and faculty member of the Lacanian School of Psychoanalysis. He has also studied with The Freudian School of Quebec, the School of GIFRIC, where he completed a six-part training and continues to participate in clinical case workshops. He leads workshops on case formulation, writing and the use of dreams in analysis, and he facilitates an ongoing reading group for the discussion of primary texts in psychoanalysis. He enjoys bringing people together for discussions of psychoanalysis as a clinical practice as well as an ethical exercise in being human. www.nathanlupo.com

Clary Tepper, PhD is a clinical psychologist in private practice in Sacramento. Her clinical work is informed by a relational perspective, and she works with adults experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, and the unique psychological challenges faced by physicians and other healthcare professionals. She has a particular interest in the assessment of ADHD in older teens and adults. In addition to her private practice, she serves as director of clinical training for an APA-accredited doctoral program in clinical psychology, where she also teaches and supervises doctoral students. She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Developmental Psychology from Bryn Mawr College. She enjoys bringing clinicians together to explore relational and psychodynamic ideas and values opportunities for ongoing learning and collegial discussion. www.clarytepperphd.com

Nicole Hsiang-Shieh, LMFT is a psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, and educator with over 15 years of experience in community mental health, college counseling, and private practice. Nicole has a graduate degree from the California Institute of Integral Studies. She works with individuals, couples and families in-person in Sacramento as well as via telehealth throughout California. Danielle Martin, MA is a clinical psychology graduate student at Alliant University and has been an SPS board member since 2024. She is currently completing her predoctoral internship at a private practice in Sacramento. Danielle has established experience providing individual and group therapy to adults in outpatient settings, addressing anxiety, OCD, perfectionism, life transitions, trauma, identity exploration, self-esteem, and relationship challenges. Her approach to therapy is rooted in psychodynamic and existential frameworks, incorporating exposure-based interventions when indicated. Through her involvement in SPS, Danielle aims to facilitate community and learning opportunities for fellow trainees interested in psychoanalysis.
