Monthly Trainee Psychoanalytic Case Conference

We are happy to announce a new, interdisciplinary psychoanalytic case conference open to all trainees in mental health in the Sacramento area. Trainees at all years of these programs are welcome to attend. The case conference will be held monthly, on the second Tuesday of each month from 6:00PM-7:30PM, at Dr. John Thor Cornelius' office at 422 Alhambra Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95816. The first meeting will be September 10th. The case conference will be facilitated by Drs. John Thor Cornelius, MD and Barbara Fattig, MD.

The case conference will be discussion-based and focused on thinking together from primarily modern psychoanalytic perspectives (though additional perspectives are welcome). For each case conference, a volunteer will present a single patient encounter. The case should include a written transcript of the back-and-forth dialogue from the trainee and their patient. We also encourage the presentation of "session" transcripts from other settings such as psychiatric hospitals, crisis ERs, mental health home visits, etc. as long as the presenter feels the material is of sufficient depth. Our aim is to explore how to connect more deeply and meaningfully with our patients and each other, in order to foster healing, and to promote honesty and humanity in our clinical work and wider lives.

If you are interested in presenting at the first case conference on 9/10/24, please email Drs. Cornelius and Fattig so that we can briefly discuss the case with you and help you to prepare (i.e. providing guidance to be sure the case material is adequately anonymized prior to the presentation, etc).

We look forward to meeting you and getting to know you through a (hopefully) lively experience!

- John Thor Cornelius & Barbara Fattig
